Ball is lyfe

March 6, 2020
1. Delilah, Boxer (5 y/o), Tomkins Square Park, New York, NY. • Delilah graciously gave up her ball in a most exciting Dogist giveaway, and now belongs to a dog on the west coast!
2. Haley, Jack Russell Terrier/Shiba Inu mix (1 y/o), @BarKdogbar, Kansas City, MO • “She steals things and hides them – my ID, money, my shoe when I had to go to work.” @haleytherebelpup
3. Sheldon, Boston Terrier (4 y/o), Boston Common, Boston, MA • “He’s basically insane. A nutter butter. He was doing pretty well at my parents’ house and then we came back and there was fluff everywhere. He got a pillow. We’re still finding it. Otherwise he’s great.”
3. Available for adoption: Snoopy, Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull mix (2 y/o), via @SanFranciscoSPCA • “All about the tennis balls. Some dogs have ‘happy tail’; he has ‘happy body’.”
4. Lu, Doberman Pinscher, McCarren Park, Brooklyn, NY.
5. Charlie, Australian Cattle Dog (8 m/o), Valley of the Moon Park, Anchorage, AK.
6. Cody, Labrador Retriever (2 y/o), Leroy Street Dog Park, New York, NY • “Girls like him a lot, but I’m gay so that doesn’t help me very much. I once told him to go after a cute guy, but he was like, ‘Nah’.”
7. Beatrice, Shepherd mix (4 y/o), Rosie’s Dog Beach, Long Beach, CA • “She loves chasing rocks. I’ll throw her the ball and she’ll come back with a rock. Her mother was killed when she was two weeks old. She was hit by a car. I had to bottle feed her just like a baby.”
8. Akira, Staffordshire Bull Terrier (1 y/o), Tompkins Square Park, New York, NY • “He loves swimming – always jumps in the water.”
9. Lino, French Bulldog (9 y/o), Surfrider Beach, Malibu, CA • “If you have the ball he’s yours.”
10. Laika, Boston Terrier (1 y/o), Tompkins Square Park, New York, NY • “‘Laika’, spelled like the first dog in space. She’s crazy…she would go into space. No question.”
11. Bernie, Border Terrier (10 w/o), Washington Square Park, New York, NY • “Bernadette Peters – we just got her yesterday. She slept through the night.”
12. Gidgit, Border Collie (9 y/o), NADD/AKC Diving Dogs, Orlando, FL.
13. Sully H.W. Bush, Labrador Retriever (2 y/o), America’s VetDogs, Smithtown, NY • “Sully was President George H.W. Bush’s service dog. He had the right personality and temperament for this important job: he is loyal, calm, and kind with children – exactly what the president’s team asked for. When Mr. Bush passed away, it was his wish that Sully serve other veterans. It has now come full circle – yesterday, Sully joined the facility dog program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to provide animal-assisted intervention. In his new role, Sully will visit injured veterans, helping to provide comfort during rehabilitation sessions or visiting with families during what can be an emotional and difficult time. He will be fulfilling Mr. Bush’s request.”
14. Kiwi, Golden Retriever (14 m/o), W Broadway & Grand St., New York, NY • “She’s super loving and has never had a problem.”
15. Norman, mix, Truckee, CA • “He found his forever home in February 2016, after a stay at the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe. Norman is a self-entertainer who ends up delighting everyone when he plays catch with himself.”

16. Chapel, Australian Cattle Dog (9 m/o), Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY.

17. Reputa, Shepherd/Husky mix (7 m/o), Plymouth Rock, Plymouth, MA • “She’s a little Wile E. Coyote. The first thing she ever played fetch with was a head of lettuce.”

18. Jackson, Labrador Retriever (1 y/o), Grand & W Broadway, New York, NY • “He knocked the tree down the other day and ate a couple ornaments.”

19. Roo, Basenji mix (6 y/o), Columbus Circle, New York, NY • “He was found on the mean streets of Irvine, CA. He was difficult to train when I got him. I joked that he wanted me to be barefoot like him, because he ate all of my shoes – six pairs. He’s a reformed dog now. I’ve seen a lot of happy dogs, but he’ll literally jump for joy.”

20. Gino, Labrador Retriever (4 m/o), Washington Square Park, New York, NY • “He had a horrible experience with a garbage truck. He was pooping when a garbage truck made a really loud sound. We’ve had to carry him outside for the last few weeks.”

21. Starbuck, Pharaoh Hound (4 y/o), Central Park, New York, NY • “She’s too smart for her own good. She knows how to repair her squeaky toys if she breaks them – she’ll actually put the squeaker back inside the toy. She’s specifically obsessed with squeaky tennis balls. If it’s a tennis ball that doesn’t squeak, it’s no good. If it’s a squeaky toy that’s not a tennis ball, it’s no good. It has to be a squeaky tennis ball. You have her favorite.”

22. Löwe, German Shepherd (2 y/o), Archibald & Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, MO • “His name means ‘lion’ in German. He’s obsessed with balls – ‘ball is life’. He’ll chew on them until they break in half.”

23. Paul, Pembroke Welsh Corgi (4 y/o), Fort Greene Park - Great PUPKin Halloween Costume Contest, Brooklyn, NY • “He’s obsessed with tennis balls. I can’t even walk with the prop because he tries to grab it.”

24. Agnes, Spinone Italiano (2 y/o), Tompkins Square Park, New York, NY • “She sits on my boyfriend’s head and she only likes dirty tennis balls.”
